- There are multiple subjects that you can focus. After high school, at our teen young year, we are forced to choose on what we want to be for life, or until retirement. That is quite unfair. At our tender age, we have little idea what adults do for a living and likewise what will be best for us. Not if you choose accountancy. You will be religiously studying multiple major subjects in college. And by the time you graduate, at your twenties or late teens, you somehow have more ideas on how adults survive. Just in time as you have mastered those multiple accounting subjects, you will basically have an idea what path you want to go to.. Be it a hardcore accountant, auditor, lawyer, IT auditor, management accountant, etc, name it.
- Little job mismatch. All businesses need accountants and auditors, you can't go wrong with what you're applying for. Only thing you'll be focusing your decision is whether you're under or rightly employed at the position you're applying for.
- It will change your life. To be an accountant is to change your views from being a person who loves to talk about other persons, to a person who loves to talk about ideas and improving processes. You can relate to life-changing quotes such as Eleanor Roosevelt's: "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."
- It is biblical. As mentioned in number 3, you'll be more interested with ideas and improving processes than talking about other people. It seemed that you will be brain washed to the highest level to overlook people flaws but instead focus on improvement of process. This is quite biblical in nature. Jesus once ate with the "tax collectors" even though they were known as sinners during that time. He focused on how they can be saved from their sins. Even to the Pharisees who are planning to crucify Him, He once taught His followers to follow the teaching of Pharisees, but don't do what they do. Jesus has done a lot more things where He focused on saving us, rather than avoiding us. That is risk-based, process focused approach in His time. And that's what you're going to learn in accountancy.
- High chance that you'll be a business partner. So you're a business-minded person? It's easier than any average people to find partners when you're an accountant for the reason mentioned in number 2. You can pursue your dream business probably with your close friends or family and you can focus on record keeping, implementing control or even strategizing and product pricing.
So are you still undecided? Have some courage and try accounting. Who knows where it can take you.
